What an exciting time this is! The day has almost come for when I embark on a new chapter in my life. Tomorrow I start my 30 Day Yoga Camp and Detox program!

I have spent these past few weeks reflecting on areas of my life that I wish to change, as well as areas of my health that give me discomfort. I find that it is important to reflect on what it is that we want to change in order to move forward. You may need to meditate on this in order to tap in and listen to what your body is telling you. Be still and pay attention to any discomfort that you are feeling. Human suffering plays a huge part in the philosophy of Buddhism and I believe that you can use any kind of suffering as a way to push you forward. You can use it as a tool to keep you motivated and on track.

Grocery shopping definitely plays a huge role in the preparation of any detox. I recommend stocking your fridge with foods that work well in various recipes and are ideal for detoxification. I am the type of person that doesn't always like to follow recipes, but as long as I have great detoxing foods available to me then I can easily stay on track. Whatever way you like to prepare your meals - you are definitely going to want to stock the following foods in your kitchen!

  • Any green veggies (full of chlorophyl - excellent for alkalinity!)

  • Ginger

  • Lemons

  • Beets

  • Carrots (not baby carrots)

  • Cabbage

  • Cucumber

  • Apples

  • Blueberries

  • Spinach

  • Celery

  • Chia Seeds

  • Psyllium Husks

  • Spirulina and/or Chlorella

  • Seaweed

  • Bee Pollen

  • Sea Salt

  • Kombucha

  • Apple Cider Vinegar

  • Cayenne Pepper

  • Herbal Tea (especially nettle, dandelion, and milk thistle)

  • Coconut Oil

  • Plenty of water and electrolytes

You'll want to create or follow a specific program to keep you accountable and on track. I plan on experimenting with new detox recipes and jogging each day; as well as following the free 'Yoga Camp' program by 'Yoga with Adriene' for daily yoga exercises and mantras. You can also make up your own mantras or follow your favourite yogi that inspires you.

Here are additional detox preparation tips:

  • Weigh yourself and take before pictures to help measure your success!

  • Avoid buying foods with added sugar, yeast, fat-free products, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), artificial sweeteners and other processed junk

  • Purchase organic, high quality, and ethically produced foods as much as possible

  • Do a deep clean of your living/work space - clear the clutter both interally and externally!

For more tips over the coming 30 days, be sure to like my Cultivate Nutrition Facebook page. If you are unfamiliar with mantras then I recommend reading my Malas and Mantras blog post. I hope to see you tomorrow for my day one detox post! In the meantime, for more motivation, try watching the detox documentary called, 'Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead.'
